FAQ

How does this whole thing work and what should I expect?

What does it cost for you to look at my Mac or other electronic device?

I do not charge anything to take a look at your MacBook, except special cases that are very time consuming.
For example - iMacs, PCs, video game consoles(mostly PS4,PS5, Xbox)

How long does getting an estimate on what cost of repair take?

This depends on your issue. I can usually give you an estimate in the same day, unless you have liquid damage, in which case you would have to wait a couple days for an estimate.

Should I wait for my Macbook to dry out before bringing it to you? Maybe it will work again!

Absolutely not, its crucial to disconnect any source of electricity - battery has to be disconnected as soon as possible, also you cannot plug the charger in.

Even a very low voltage combined with a liquid makes the corrosion happen, and all this tiny components and copper traces simply disintegrate in the matter of days.

Also - in most cases even if it's keeps working for a week or a month, there is very high chance it will die one day randomly, at the worst possible moment.

Waiting a long time allows the corrosion to eat away components and copper circuit lines. Sometimes its impossible to restore everything and any data that was on the device is gone forever.

Are you fixing only Macs?

Yes and no. For network and server issues we can help with any platform.

While we can work on PC laptops, we are limited in the services we offer.

The issue is most of the PC laptops we see cost almost as much to fix as the machine is worth and we find that people’s time constraints do not often allow for a proper estimate.

It is feasible to stock most Apple laptop parts that we need, but not feasible to stock every single PC part there is, there are too many models.

Also because of the high demand there's better access to schematics and boardview files for MacBooks.

Considering the time constraints of our customers and the lack of ability to stock every PC laptop part there is, I am just not best suited to servicing most PC laptops.

Are you Apple certified?

Absolutely not. Being Apple certified would tie my hands to the point where even replacing a fuse would get me in trouble. Being Apple authorized would tie my hands to the point where I have to charge you 7500-12500kr to replace your motherboard because of that one component!

Doesn’t a lack of certification mean you have no idea what you’re doing, or that my repair has a chance of premature failure?

No. To be an Apple certified warranty repair center, to the point that repairs are 100% officially covered under an Apple warranty, the service center must buy their parts from Apple. This gives Apple bargaining power in setting prices of parts, which results in unnecessarily expensive repairs. In order to make a profit, a repair shop must set a very high price for any given service.

Apple sells the part to a service center for 3-6 times its actual cost, which is the reason Apple Authorized service centers are so expensive. Apple knows that customers prefer shops that are Apple authorized service centers. It has little to do with getting you better service or a better repair.

Then what about Elkjøp, Eplehuset, Komplett, etc?

What they do and what I do are two different things.
For example - I had a customer who went to Elkjøp to fix his MacBook, the device wasn't powering on, completely dead.
The only thing they have done was wasting his time, they also wanted to sell him a screen replacement - for a dead MacBook that doesn't even turn on!
I have managed to repair it the same day it was delivered, it was only a matter of faulty thunderbolt port that had corrosion and was creating a short. (On that particular model the thunderbolt ports were soldered to the logic board)

The reason for that is that they're not trained in logic board repairs. This type of training is very expensive, and its easier and more cost effective for Apple and authorised service providers to replace the whole components.

Also in some cases I am able to repair the screen itself if the electronic control board was damaged, I charge half or 1/3 of what Apple wants for a new screen.

They will often ask you to pay 6000-9000kr to fix a MacBook Air from 2014.
